About This Test

Understanding your risk is vital. Your kidneys play a pivotal role in maintaining your body's health and proper functionality. Their primary task is eliminating waste products and excess fluid from the bloodstream, excreting them through urine. This filtration process ensures toxin-free blood. Additionally, the kidneys oversee body fluid levels, manage electrolyte concentrations, regulate blood pressure, and facilitate red blood cell production.

Our assessment aligns with National Kidney Foundation recommendations, focusing on early detection and chronic kidney disease monitoring. The Kidney Profile evaluates creatinine, eGFR, and albumin levels, offering insights into potential chronic kidney disease susceptibility. By understanding these markers, you can proactively address any risk factors and promote kidney health.

Signs & Symptoms

Around 37 million individuals in the US are estimated to have CKD, with many being unaware. Early kidney disease stages might be asymptomatic, but as time passes, diminished waste and fluid filtration capability can lead to symptoms including:

  • High blood pressure (hypertension)
  • Heart disease
  • Diabetes
  • Loss of appetite
  • Unintentional weight loss
  • Swelling of the legs, ankles, or feet (edema)
  • Shortness of breath
  • Increased frequency or need to urinate, especially at night
  • Insomnia
  • Itchy, dry skin
  • Muscle cramps
  • Headache
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Urine that is foamy, frothy, or contains blood
  • Back or side (flank) pain
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Fatigue, weakness
  • Puffiness around the eyes

What's Tested?

  • Creatinine-based eGFR :
The screening involves assessing creatinine-based eGFR levels in blood. Elevated creatinine may indicate kidney or renal vessel damage. eGFR reflects kidney efficiency in removing toxins and fluid, determining function level. A higher value signifies better kidney performance.
  • Albumin/creatinine ratio : Albumin, a liver-produced protein, enters the bloodstream, acting as the primary circulating protein. It sustains tissues, transports hormones, drugs, and substances, while preventing fluid leakage from the bloodstream into tissues.
