About This Test
This test is aimed at screening for herpes, a sexually transmitted infection known to cause painful sores around the mouth or genital area. The test assesses both herpes type-1, which is commonly associated with oral herpes, and herpes type-2, often linked to genital herpes. Interestingly, herpes type-1 is increasingly responsible for cases of genital infections. Although a complete cure for herpes is currently unavailable, various treatments are effective in managing symptoms and reducing the likelihood of recurrent outbreaks.
Signs & Symptoms
Individuals carrying HSV frequently remain asymptomatic, facilitating virus transmission. Symptomatic cases may exhibit blisters around the mouth, genitals, or rectum, typically appearing 2 to 6 weeks post-exposure.
Symptoms may include:
- Tingling, burning, or itching before the blisters appear
- Painful, fluid-filled blisters around the site of infection
- Flu-like symptoms such as fever, swollen glands, or body aches
Who Should Have This Test
This test is suitable for sexually active individuals. Even in the absence of symptoms, STD transmission can occur unknowingly. You must be 18 years old or older to purchase.
